Getting ill.

It's going to be spring in a week, but it is still too frosty to think about wearing lighter clothes and walking on the snowfree asphalt. The temperature is -17 C? but you feel like it is -25C. As a result you cannot help catching cold. I fell cold even wearing uggs, that I have always considered ugly, but extremely useful and comfortable, especially after attending the skating rink.
Anyway I am getting ill now... I am getting lazy, because I have no strength, my mood is not really good, I have a running nose and a sore throat to boot. To be honest, all I want is a glass of mulled wine and some pancakes with cottage cheese and honey. Oh, yes, that's the very medicine I need. It would be perfect if someone cooks that all for me while I am staying in bed and watching some comedies.

Besides, it's going to be a famous holiday soon. I am afraid, that there is no equivalent to the name of this holiday, but still the fact, that we say "good bye" to winter, meet spring and cook extremely tasty pancakes can help all of you understand what a holiday we are going to have soon.

  2. There are so many things about this post that scares me.

You can tell the difference between -17C and -25C? Both of them are too cold for me to even imagine. If it gets to 0C around here I won't leave my house.

What in the world is mulled wine?

Pancakes with cottage cheese and honey? Is that actually something that you eat? It sounds weird but I'll admit it, I kind of want to try it.

    Get better soon.

  3. Oh, - 25 C is quite a normal winter temperature for my country, sometimes we even have colder winters. You know, I live in Ukraine, which is located near Russia, that's why as a rule we have very cold winters. We are just used to it.

Concerning mulled wine...Well, it's wine, usually red, combined with spices and typically served warm. It is a traditional drink during winter, especially around Christmas and Halloween.(stole this phrase from Wikipedia). It's quite popular in our country, I am totally sure that you've heard about it, probably the name is different.

Now about pancakes...Our pancakes are absolutely not like yours. We make them very thin and in most cases we stuff them with some meat, jam, fruits, simply sugar or cottage cheese(everyone puts there everything he wants) ant then we roll them just the way it is in the picture. Then we put some sour cream or whatever on it and using a knife and a folk eat it. I guess it's the originally Russian dish, but we eat it all around Ukraine as well. We call it like blinchiki It's very tasty, like a pie, besides it is home-made.

  4. I knew you live in Ukraine (I really do read your blog) but unfortuantely I know very little about the country. I'm going to have to do some research about it.

Now I know what you mean by mulled wine. Yeah, we have that here too. I've tried it and I liked it but it's real rare in this part of the country. Maybe it's just rare in my house.

Your pancakes sound like what we call crepes. It's a type of French pancake that is just what you're describing. If cottage cheese is the same thing there as it is here then I won't be putting it on anything that's going in my mouth. I never have liked the stuff.

I've got to tell you, I'm really enjoying learning about the differences in our countries and cultures. As you can tell, most of my blog is just me talking stupid but hopefully you're learning a little from it as well.

I really do hope you're feeling better.

  5. Yes, thank you. I am really getting better. I like to learn the differences about our countries and cultures as well, because it's more interesting to learn smth new from the English speaker rather than from some book.
In any case thank you very much for keeping in touch with me. That's of a great use and pleasure for me=)

  6. P.S. These crepes look the very same way as our ones. Finally I will tell my teachers the difference about pancakes and crepes, because in most cases they are as stubborn as a mule, but now I know this for sure. Hey, you maked me smile=)))
